Recognizing and Responding to #GiftedKidBurnout

Join the Adams 12 GT Parents Group for a virtual presentation by Dr. Brian Housand on gifted kid burnout.  Dr. Housand will take a clear-eyed look at why burnout shows up so frequently in gifted learners and why it is often misunderstood or missed entirely.  He will explore contributing factors such as perfectionism, pressure, and identity strain, as well as practical strategies for recognizing warning signs.  Click the link HERE to get more information and sign up.

This family playdate is open to any grade of GT or talent pool student in the Adams 12 school district.  This will be open house style, so feel free to join us for any portion of this informal gathering that you are able to attend, but parents/caregivers are expected to stay with their kiddos. Let us know you can make it and find more details HERE

While this is not an Adams 12 GT Parents Group event, it is being hosted by Stargate Charter School and has been graciously opened up to any parents/caregivers of GT students in the Adams 12 School District. To learn more about this event and RSVP, please reach out to Kristen Mansure at kristen.mansure@stargateschool.org

April Planning Meeting

Wednesday, April 1st 6:30-8pm

All parents of Adams 12 GT students are welcome to join us for our next planning meeting at the Broomfield Library (3 Community Park Rd, Broomfield, CO 80020) in the upstairs Eisenhower Meeting Room.

Remember, we are a group made up entirely of volunteering parents and cannot continue to hold events without your help!  If you would like to be more involved with the GT Parents Group but are not sure how, this would be a great opportunity to learn more.  Newcomers as well as familiar faces are welcome.

Let us know you're coming by signing up HERE.

Thursday, April 9th - GT Parent Forum: Acceleration

SAVE THE DATE!  Our last Parent Forum of the year will be the evening of Thursday, April 9th.  Information will be presented by Dr. Lynn Saltzgaver, Director of Advanced Academic and Gifted Services in Adams 12, and Dr. Colleen Urlik, Principal at Hulstrom K-8.  As is the case with our forum format, there will be ample time for discussion and questions after the presentation portion.  More details and a sign up coming soon!

Evening Social Hour

Monday, April 13th, 6:30-8:30pm

This meetup is open to any parent or caregiver of a GT or talent pool student in the Adams 12 school district. Our next social hour will be at Wapos Cantina (11225 Decatur St #100, Westminster, CO 80031). Please RSVP HERE no later than Saturday, April 11th so that we can have an estimate of attendees. As always, feel free to join us for any portion of this informal gathering that you are able to attend.

College Information for GT Students

Congratulations for getting to the end of the newsletter!

For those of you with high school sophomores and juniors, you may be thinking about the looming prospect of college application season.  Many parents find the whole process overwhelming and don't know where to start.  A12GTPG has a collection of links and resources from a past presentation by Adams 12 GT advocates on this topic, including sample timelines, college comparison templates, and slide decks on the Common App, FAFSA, college essays, and athletic recruiting. While there are no plans for an in-person event this year, there is plenty to look over on our Resource page linked HERE!
