April 2026 Newsletter

Thank you to everyone who supported the Adams 12 GT Parents Group this year by attending one of our parent education speaker events, kid-centered activities, or social hours.  This year we had three family/elementary events with more than 90 attendees combined, the much-anticipated Middle School Madness event which hosted 99 students, and three parent education events with more than 100 attendees in total.  We have just one more event this school year, but we know that being a GT parent doesn't end when school does.  So, in this newsletter, we are sharing a few resources that can help you keep up with your GT student and stay informed on all things GT this summer.

But first, we invite you all to fill out this very brief voting form for our board positions for next year.  Carianne Colwell will be moving from President-Elect to President.  We are so grateful to Jennifer No for being willing to take over for Joanne Bliss as Secretary, and Joanne has offered to take on the role of Treasurer.

As for the event, we have our final planning meeting of the school year, which will really be a celebration of what we've accomplished, as well as some initial brainstorming for what we'd like to do next year.  If you've ever been curious about our planning meetings, this is a great one to attend!  We're meeting at the 3 Margaritas in Thornton on Tuesday, April 28th at 6:30pm and would ask that you please RSVP here by the evening of Sunday, April 26th so that we can know how many to expect.  If you cannot attend but are interested in getting more involved next year, please email us at info@a12gifted.org and we will let you know what opportunities there are.

Lastly, I just want to say it's been a real pleasure getting to lead the group for the last two years and I appreciate all the support and encouragement I got from the board and from all of you!

With gratitude,

Jill Cables

A12 GTPG President

Resources to Check Out Over the Summer
Conversations With CAGT

I want to let you know about a great resource that started during Covid and continues to grow, which you may find time to look into during summer break.  Our parent organization, CAGT (Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented), has a series called Conversations with CAGT which are recorded talks with experts on many different topics related to giftedness.  They just wrapped up their 6th season, and the archives of all previous seasons are also available on their website. As we head into summer, this episode on High-Ability Kids and the Friendships They Need might be especially relevant.

Previous Parent Education

If you missed our last Parent Forum and want to see the slides from the presentations on Acceleration, head to our homepage.  And while you're at it, you can check out this section of our website with other previous parent education information and resources.

Neurodiversity Podcast

If you're a fan of podcasts, this one called The Neurodiversity Podcast is on any short-list of great ones for the gifted and neurodivergent communities.  Emily Kircher-Morris has over 300 episodes, so you're basically guaranteed to find whatever topic you're looking for.

Student looking bored
Handling Summer Boredom

When you have the inevitable "I'm Bored" complaint this summer, check out the following resources to make your life easier.

Reading Lists for Gifted Kids: This website has links to recommended reading for kids broken down by genre, age, and topic. It branches out of the traditional books kids are reading and is a great way to identify new series and characters to keep them interested.

Board Games: Check out this list of board games recommended by other A12GT parents and students.

Summer Fun Ideas: The A12GT Parents Group hosted a parent education event last year called "Strategies for GT Kids Bored at Home and School."  You can find the resources from that event through this link under the section from March 2025 which includes resources on 100 Fun Summer Activities for kids of all ages and Screen Free Ideas for Teens.
